POCHIN PICKED FOR CHESTER PRIMARK CONTRACT

Pochin Construction Ltd has been awarded a key contract by Redevco UK to transform the former Woolworths store on Foregate Street in Chester, which will become home to clothes retail giant, Primark.

Following a six-way competitive tender, Pochin Construction was awarded the contract to carry out the agreed works, and started on site at the beginning of June with work scheduled to take 25 weeks to complete. This store will be first Primark in the city and when the store opens in 2010, will create more than 200 employment opportunities.

Landlord, Redevco UK Ltd, submitted planning proposals for the refurbishment of the front elevation of the building alongside the construction of a 557 sq m (6,000 sq ft) first floor rear extension in 2008. Planning was subsequently achieved for the rear extension in December 2008 followed by the front elevation in February 2009.

On the contract win, Antony Pochin, Business Strategy Director, Pochin Construction commented: "As contractors for Liberty's HQ Chester scheme, we have extensive experience in dealing with historical sites, a factor which proved key in helping us win the job.

"A watching brief will be in operation during the construction process, whereby an archaeologist is employed to monitor the excavation and preservation of archaeological remains."
