EDUCATION, EDUCATION EDUCATION FOR POCHIN!
Pochin Construction has been awarded a £7million contract to construct a new learning zone at Mid-Cheshire College in Winsford.
The project, which will be known as Winsford Learning Zone, aims to build a centre for educational excellence in Winsford and will deliver a range of high quality courses for the whole community.
The building itself will be located on Weaver Street in Winsford and is to be 3,450 sq m (37,135 sq ft) in size over three levels. Pochin will carry out the construction of the college building itself in addition to ancillary facilities, landscaping and car parking. Once complete, the facility will accommodate a student population of 245 and 73 full and part time staff. The length of the contract is currently indicated at 52 weeks, however, once agreed, work is estimated to take 37 weeks to complete.
On the contract win, Antony Pochin, business strategy director, of Pochin Construction comments: "As Pochin is a Cheshire-based company, we are proud to play such an integral part in developing what proposes to be a landmark educational institution for the area. We hope Winsford Learning Zone will help attract further investment to their region.
Wanda Ford from Mid Cheshire College adds. "The new Learning Zone will provide people of all ages with a fantastic opportunity to gain qualifications, which aid employment. Once completed, the Learning Zone will be an educational service, which both people of Winsford and the wider community can benefit from."
The learning zone project is being led by Mid-Cheshire College and supported by a number of agencies including the Northwest Development Agency and Vale Royal Borough Council. Winsfords two local high schools and Sir John Deanes College in Northwich are also involved in the project.
