OPEN DAY AT NEW WELSH ASSEMBLY GOVERNMENT OFFICE

The Welsh Assembly Government and Pochin Construction are hosting an Open Day at the site of the new Welsh Assembly Government office at Llandudno Junction on Saturday, 6 June.

Construction of the new office, which will be the largest Welsh Assembly Government office outside Cardiff, is due to be completed in Spring 2010, with staff starting to move in during the Summer.

The public are invited to come to the Visitor Centre, next to the site, to see new images of what the building will look like when it's finished, see a new animation of the building and meet the Construction Team.

Visitors will also be able to go on the site itself to see the building, although access into the new building will not be possible for health and safety reasons.

There will be plenty of activities on the day including:
• Performances by local Llandudno Junction drama group Teenz and Kidz
• Children aged 16 and under can take part in the 'If I Were First Minister' competition. Come up with the best suggestion of what you would do if you were First Minister and win free family entry to all CADW properties for a year.
• Children's quiz and colouring competition with a prize replica model of a Pochin Concrete Pump.
• Meet artist Sally Matthews, who has been chosen to provide artwork for the new building, and who will be looking for suggestions from the local community.
• See diggers, scissor lifts and cherry pickers close up and find out how they work.

First Minister Rhodri Morgan said: "The Welsh Assembly Government made the commitment that by 2010 new offices will be established in Merthyr Tydfil, Aberystwyth and Llandudno Junction, bringing the full breadth of Assembly Government services closer to the people of Wales. The new Welsh Assembly Government office in Llandudno Junction is something the whole of North Wales can be proud of.
With a design inspired by the area's heritage and local slate used throughout, the Llandudno Junction office will be a striking building. It is being built to high environmental standards with features including natural light and ventilation, recycling rainwater and biomass heating. We are also committed to using local suppliers whenever possible, and to date £8m has been committed locally.
Now that the building is really taking shape I'm sure many people would like to take the opportunity to see what this exciting building will look like when completed, and see what it looks like now. It will also be an opportunity to meet the Construction Team and Welsh Assembly Government staff."

Managing Director of Pochin Construction, Jon Pochin said: "From the outset we have continually strived to ensure the scheme sits well within the community. This has included using locally sourced materials where possible, to organising community-based initiatives, such as inviting a group of local female students on site to encourage girls to become involved in construction skills. The Open Day is another excellent opportunity for the public to become involved in the scheme and we look forward to explaining all that the building has to offer."

The Open Day will run from 10am to 4pm and visitors should come to: The Visitor Centre, Bryn Derw, 2 Narrow Lane, Llandudno Junction, LL31 9BB.

There will be an opportunity to view the new building from the site. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult if they wish to visit the site.
