POCHIN CONSTRUCTION HELPS BRING TATTON PARK BIENNIAL TO LIFE

Pochin Construction, part of Cheshire-based Pochin's PLC, has been invited by the curators of the Tatton Park Biennial to advise on its second Biennial art project, called Framing Identity.

The Biennial is commissioning over twenty artists and writers to develop new productions for 2010 that respond to the notion of 'Framing Identity'. The commissioned works will include large-scale installations, films, performance and the written word and will be displayed within Tatton Park throughout the exhibition, which is to take place from 7th May to the 26th September 2010.

Of the twenty-one commissioned artists there are at least five projects that the curators feel may require assistance in terms of construction methodology and building control regulation advice. Middlewich-based construction company, Pochin Construction, has agreed to work with the selected artists and the Biennial curators in the lead up to the opening of the exhibition on 7th May to help bring these artworks to fruition.

Some of the projects that Pochin will be advising on include; the construction of an abstract and apparently collapsing tree house, a mirrored sphere that sits on top of a pre-fabricated garden shed, a three-ton block of ice harvested from Greenland, a 4m-tall 'fossilisation-machine' and a 4m-long fibreglass lion statue.

On the project, Antony Pochin, business strategy director for Pochin Construction, commented: "As a Cheshire-based company, we are proud to play a part in bringing such a well-respected project to life and it is fantastic to be able to use our expertise in the creative industry. The 2008 Biennial was a resounding success and we look forward to playing our part in making this year's Biennial even more successful."

On the project, curator for the Tatton Park Biennial, Jordan Kaplan, commented: "We are grateful to the team at Pochin's for giving up their time to advise our commissioned artists in their quest to create a memorable experience for the visitors to this year's Biennial.

"The Biennial is working to position itself as a cultural hub for the region, addressing local people and issues through creative, multidisciplinary practices and outreach work. The Biennial will bring together some of the finest artists in the world and we are proud to be able put Tatton Park on the map as cultural destination in the North West.

Stewart Grant of Pozzoni Architects and Phil Barlow of Tier Structural Engineers are assisting Pochin in its work on the projects.
