POCHIN CONTRACTORS TO BUILD UNICORN BREWERY VISITORS CENTRE

Pochin Contractors has secured a contract to construct a new Visitors Centre at The Unicorn Brewery in Stockport on behalf of Fredric Robinson Ltd.

The proposed Visitors Centre will be approximately 690 sq m (7,427 sq ft) in size and work is anticipated to consist of alterations, extensions and some refurbishments to the existing building. The details of the contract will be agreed when the stage two tender is submitted in xxx. However, once agreed, work is estimated to take 37 weeks to complete.

On the instruction, Antony Pochin of Pochin Contractors comments: "We have built a strong relationship with Fredric Robinson over the years, in fact, Pochin was the original contractor to have built the bottling centre, when production began in 1975. More recently we have completed civil works to the brewery's packaging line and refurbished of a number of public houses across the northwest for the firm.

"As always, when working at The Unicorn Brewery, we are required to work under challenging conditions, as the site remains fully operational during construction. Plans for the Visitors Centre include erecting a temporary roof over the existing conference area to enable alterations and construction of the new building to proceed, while the existing area is kept live. There is also very limited space available for construction activities and storage, therefore accurate planning and logistics is critical."

Fredric Robinson Ltd representative, Matthew Greenhalgh adds: "The new Visitors Centre will provide a unique opportunity for the public to gain an insight to the inner workings of the iconic Unicorn Brewery. We look forward to progressing the plans when the stage two tender is submitted later in the year."
