POCHIN DEVELOPMENTS KICKS OFF THE SECOND PHASE OF INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS AT ELLESMERE WHARF

To mark the start of the second phase of infrastructure works at Ellesmere Wharf in Shropshire, Pochin Developments Ltd has today held a sod cutting ceremony on site.

Pochin Developments Limited was joined by the Town Mayor, Councillor Alan Clarke, and the Directors of Bloor Homes and McCarthy & Stone for a short ceremony to officially mark the commencement of the second phase of infrastructure works at the former dairy creamery.

The ceremony comes shortly after Pochin Developments completed two land sales to McCarthy & Stone and Bloor Homes in September 2011. The infrastructure works will see further road and drainage installed to allow McCarthy & Stone and Bloor Homes to begin development on site in spring 2012.

McCarthy & Stone has been granted planning permission to build 47 retirement homes on the 1.2-acre site. The proposed scheme will comprise 32 one-bedroom and 15 two-bedroom retirement apartments, as well as a communal lounge, laundry, refuse area, guest suite, manager's office and 24 parking spaces.

Bloor Homes has been granted detailed planning permission on 2.4 acres of land to build 36 homes comprising a range of two, three, four and five bedroom properties.

Bob Nicholson, senior project manager for Pochin Developments, said: "Pochin has been involved in the redevelopment of the former creamery site for several years. This ceremony not only officially starts work on site for the second phase of development, but also provides an opportunity to recognise all of the hard work and contributions which have been made by those involved to date.

"The land sales to Bloor Homes and McCarthy & Stone are important parts of the jigsaw at Ellesmere Wharf. The second phase of infrastructure is scheduled to complete in March 2012 in time for McCarthy & Stone and Bloor Homes to commence development in the Spring."

Richard Williams, regional managing director for McCarthy & Stone, added: "Today's ceremony marks a real milestone in the redevelopment of the Wharf Road site. We are excited to be a part of the new scheme and look forward to bringing much-needed specialist retirement accommodation to the area."

"Bloor Homes is equally proud to be involved with the launch of the new scheme" commented Steve Feneley, Managing Director of its North West Region. "We will be providing a range of new traditional and affordable family homes which have not been available in Ellesmere for some time"
