LOCAL SCHOOLS TRAVEL IN TIME AT ASSEMBLY GOVERNMENT

Pupils from schools in Llandudno Junction and Llandudno will be leaving messages for the future as they decide what should go into a time capsule to be buried at the site of the new Welsh Assembly Government office at Llandudno Junction.

Pupils from Ysgol Nant y Coed, Ysgol Maelgwn, Ysgol Aberconwy and Ysgol y Creuddyn have come to the Welsh Assembly Government's Visitor Centre near the site to see the capsule and think about what they would like to put in the capsule. The schools will now go back and decide what should go in.

Some of the items thought of by the pupils during their visit include an interview with ex Hotpoint employees, a school dinner menu, a scrap book and a school uniform.
The time capsule will be buried in the reception area of the new office towards the end of this year, and will not be opened for 50 years.

First Minister Rhodri Morgan said: "The new Welsh Assembly Government office at Llandudno Junction will be a real asset for North Wales. That is why it is local school children who are deciding what should go into the time capsule, and I look forward to finding out just what they have decided to include.

"We have now had ten years of devolution and this capsule won't be opened until sixty years of devolution have passed. One can only imagine what changes will have taken place in that time, but the establishing of the office in Llandudno Junction shows the Welsh Assembly Government's level of commitment to North Wales now."

Jonathan Pochin, managing director of Pochin Construction commented: "During the construction of this building we have organised site visits and given talks at school assemblies to make pupils from the surrounding area feel engaged with the development. This is another step forward in encouraging the children to become more involved - I can only hope I'm still around when its dug up in 50 years time!"
