WIDNES VIKINGS HELP TRANSFORM ST MARY’S PARISH COMMUNITY CENTRE
The Widnes Vikings will be invading St Mary's Parish Community Centre on Friday 4th September, to add the finishing touches to Pochin Construction's refurbishment of the community centre in West Bank, Widnes.
As the Parish will be celebrating its Centenary year in 2010,
Cheshire-based Pochin Construction decided to donate £3,000
towards the refurbishment of the community centre, as well as
volunteering its services to carry out the improvement works. The
work involved repairing the roof and replacing slate tiles where
necessary, installing new disabled bathroom facilities, and
managing the internal redecoration of the centre.
On Friday 4th September 2009, between 10am and 2pm, Pochin will
officially hand the centre back to the Parish and, to mark the
occasion, the Widnes Vikings have been invited to help apply the
last strokes of paint to the internal walls of the centre. Viking
stars; Anthony Thackeray, Mark Smith, Richard Fletcher, John Duffy,
Scott Yates, Shane Grady, Paddy Flynn and Anthony Mullally will all
be donning their overalls to help complete the community centre
transformation. Once the decorating is finished, the players will
be on hand to sign autographs, before enjoying a buffet lunch and a
raffle to help raise money for the self-funded community
centre.
On the transformation of the community centre, Lara Da Rocha-Faria,
CSR Manager for Pochin Construction, commented: "St Mary's
Parish Community Centre was in need of some TLC but because it is
self-funded, the team has had difficulties in raising sufficient
funds. Through our in involvement constructing new premises for
the Stobart Group in Widnes, we became aware of the community
centre's plight, and along with the generosity of our
subcontractors and clients, we have been able to give a new lease
of life to the centre in order to better reflect the community it
serves."
Pochin Construction has recently completed the £22m project
in Widnes for Vikings sponsor, The Stobart Group. The project
reached practical completion at the end of July this year and
involved the construction of a new 32,515 sq m (350,000 sq ft)
chilled distribution store and a 12,449 sq m (134,000 sq ft)
recycling services centre on Mathieson Road in Widnes.
